Visa & entry questions

Five questions on visas.

01

Do I need a medical visa for Busan dermatology?

Most likely no. K-ETA covers most nationalities (US, EU, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, NZ, Canada, UK and 90+ more) for stays under 90 days. C-3-3 medical visa needed only for non-K-ETA countries (mainland China and certain others) or for extended treatment stays.

Most common K-ETA covers ~80% of foreign dermatology patients
02

How long does K-ETA take to approve?

Typically 24 hours; officially up to 72. Apply at least 3 days before flight at k-eta.go.kr. ₩10,000 (~$7) fee. Valid 3 years for multiple entries up to 90 days each visit. Approval confirmation via email.

Cost / timing $7 / 24h typical / 3-year validity
03

Does JRYN provide invitation letters?

Yes — free for booked patients. Bilingual Korean+English invitation letter (초청장) for K-ETA edge cases or C-3-3 applications. Confirms treatment scope, dates, and KHIDI registration. Also available in Japanese, Traditional Chinese on request.

Free 1–2 day turnaround · Multiple languages
04

What if my K-ETA is denied?

Apply for C-3-3 medical visa instead with full supporting documentation. JRYN's invitation letter strengthens the application. Reasons for K-ETA denial: incomplete address, prior overstays, security flags. Most denials are correctable through C-3-3 with proper documentation.

Backup C-3-3 with JRYN invitation letter
05

Can I extend my stay if needed?

Yes — K-ETA and C-3-3 both allow extension at Korean immigration offices (출입국·외국인청). JRYN provides medical justification letters. K-ETA extension is harder; for known long stays, apply for C-3-3 from the start.

Extension Up to 1 year for C-3-3 with extension

📞

How does follow-up work from abroad?

Specific situational questions

Edge cases and clarifications.

What if I have a complication after returning home?

Rare but possible. JRYN's WhatsApp follow-up handles most issues. For unusual symptoms, see a local dermatologist; we send your treatment records and medical opinion to support diagnosis. Foreign-patient liability insurance covers serious complications. Most issues resolve without return travel.

Can I bring medications back home?

Yes, with prescription paper. Declare prescription medications at your home country customs. Topicals (creams, sunscreens) typically don't need declaration. Korean cosmetics under personal-use thresholds duty-free. Don't try to bring back unopened injectables for use at home — that's illegal.

Is the VAT refund still available?

No — Korea ended the foreign-patient VAT refund on aesthetic dermatology starting January 1, 2026. JRYN's pricing didn't change with the refund ending. Department-store shopping still qualifies for tourist VAT refund (separate process).

Can I do a planning trip without committing to treatment?

Yes — consultation-only visits are welcome. About 30 min consultation, photo documentation, treatment recommendation, written pricing in your language. Many foreign patients consult first, decide afterward, return for treatment another trip. No deposit for first consultation.

Decision framework summary

Should you fly to Busan?.

Yes if you

  • Want Korean K-beauty innovation (some treatments unavailable in your country)
  • Save substantially vs local pricing (60–70% US, 30–40% Tokyo, 30–50% Taipei)
  • Have flexibility for 3–7 day Korea trip
  • Want English/Japanese/Chinese language support
  • Are comfortable with international medical travel logistics

Maybe not if you

  • Need ongoing weekly treatments (commuting impractical)
  • Have a tight budget that doesn't include flights
  • Have urgent treatment timeline requiring immediate local care
  • Are uncomfortable with international long-haul travel
  • Total trip cost (flights + hotel + treatment) doesn't beat your local clinic for the specific procedure

Definitely not if you

  • Need surgical procedures (JRYN is dermatology only)
  • Have unrealistic 'transformation' expectations
  • Aren't sure which treatment you want (consult locally first)
  • Have severe untreated dermatologic disease (treat that first)
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding (defer most aesthetic treatments)

Frequently asked

More common questions
questions.

Is JRYN the right clinic for my treatment?
JRYN focuses on dermatology — botox, filler, skin booster, HIFU, RF, laser, salmon DNA, exosome. We're not the right clinic for: surgical procedures (full facelift, liposuction), hair transplant, dental work. For dermatology, we serve foreign patients across all common Korean K-beauty treatments. WhatsApp us with your specific concern and we'll honestly tell you whether we're a fit.
How experienced is Dr. Lee?
Dr. Jeong Heon Lee, MD — Inje University College of Medicine. Korean Dermatological Association (KDA) member. Korean Society for Cosmetic Dermatology and Surgery (KSCD) member. Specialty practice in dermatology since 2010. Hundreds of foreign patient cases annually. Specific case volume on any treatment available on request.
Are the devices the same as in Seoul Gangnam?
Yes — JRYN uses the same KFDA-approved authentic devices: Ultherapy Prime, Shurink Universe, Volnewmer, Thermage FLX, Oligio, PicoSure, PicoPlus. Manufacturer service contracts and serial numbers verifiable on request. The clinical difference between Busan and Gangnam is location and pricing, not device authenticity.
Can I trust JRYN before I arrive?
Three verifiable trust signals: (1) KHIDI registration — verifiable at medicalkorea.or.kr. (2) Transparent pricing — quotes in 4 currencies with itemized inclusions. (3) Documented language support — WhatsApp consultation in English/Japanese/Mandarin demonstrates capability before you book. Compare these signals across clinics before deciding.
What if I'm a planning trip first?
Welcome — consultation-only visits are common. About 30 min consultation with Dr. Lee. Photo documentation, written treatment recommendation, USD/JPY/TWD pricing. You leave with a complete plan and decide later. No deposit required. Many foreign patients consult on trip 1, return for treatment on trip 2.
How does combination treatment work?
Combination same-session saves 15% off second/third device. Common combinations: HIFU + RF (lifting + tightening), HIFU + salmon DNA (lift + regeneration), Laser + exosome (resurfacing + healing). JRYN designs combinations at consultation. Same trip = compounding effect + cost savings.
Are there special considerations for first-time injectables patients?
Yes — go conservative on first session. Lower dose, less area coverage, see how your body responds. Many first-time foreign patients overdo it on trip 1. JRYN's recommendation: try minimal scope on trip 1, evaluate at home, return for fuller protocol on trip 2 if happy with results. Builds confidence rather than risking dissatisfaction.
Can my partner/family come with me?
Yes — companion welcome at consultation and in waiting area. Companions receive language support same as patients (no extra fee). For families: kids welcome but our clinic is primarily adult-focused. JRYN can recommend hotel options that work for traveling families.
What if I want to combine Seoul + Busan trip?
Common arrangement. Many foreign patients visit Seoul first (shopping, tourism, comparison consultations), then KTX to Busan for treatment. Or reverse. KTX takes 2.5 hours between cities. Plan 5–7 days for combined trip. JRYN can recommend Seoul-side hotels and clinics for coordination.
How do I escalate if there's a problem during or after treatment?
First contact JRYN directly via WhatsApp +82-10-3951-7576 — we resolve almost all issues there. If unresolved, KHIDI provides foreign-patient complaint resolution at medicalkorea.or.kr. Foreign-patient liability insurance covers serious complications. JRYN's commitment: transparent communication and honest resolution. Issues are rare; resolution is direct when they occur.
